Kitesurfing the biggest storm on the planet!

The media publicized it as the biggest storm on the planet, and it was coming towards New Zealand bringing with it gale force winds, snow and hail.  The storm was the size of Australia and moving very slowly past resulting in over a week of huge swell and crazy winds.
The swell maps looked wild, and the wind forecasts looked wilder.
I did what everybody expected me to do and got out in the ocean to kite the storm ;)
I'll admit that it might have been pretty stupid, but sometimes you have to push your comfort levels to truly feel alive.
There were times when I was so overpowered I just didn't know what to do, and there were jumps that took me up and didn't put me back down for a long, long time.  But it was satisfying to see the big >100 Kg guys sitting on the beach too scared to go out, as I cruised around in the ocean by myself.
I learned a lot about kiting overpowered and how to shield my eyes from hail while kiting, but all in all I survived with a big smile on my face.
The photo below is of me kiting as a new storm front comes in and during a sun set.  There is nothing better than being at one with Mother Nature both during her calm and her powerful times.
